Tonight in Santa Clara Monday June 19th, and later this week in Fremont and Livermore, the Altamont Commuter Express team is hosting community open houses discussing the Environmental Impact Report for their ACEForward plan. The comment deadline for the EIR is 60 days after May 31, so the end of July.
The plan includes near-term improvements, including more frequent service, safety improvements suchas grade crossings and additional track in key locations, extension of ACE service to Manteca and Modesto, and a potential station in Ripon.
Longer-term improvements being considered include potential connections to BART in Union City and the Tri-Valley, to extending ACE service to Turlock and Merced; investigating potential stations in Downtown Tracy, west of Tracy, Lathrop at River Islands, Lathrop at McKinley Avenue and SR-120, Ceres, Livingston, and Atwater.

Relocating from South of Tracy to Downtown Tracy is a no brainier that makes train times faster and station more accessible.
MARTIN WASIAK nails it. Dan Leavitt knows this intuitively, I would bet. I could say so much more because I have been following this for years and still can’t get enough on it.
One very BIG issue is that AB 758 (Susan Eggman and Catherine Baker) would create the Tri Valley San Joaquin Valley Regional Rail Authority. This Authority would be responsible for essentially connecting BART and/or ACE from Dublin/Pleasanton to Lathrop/Manteca. The biggest question I have is how are the projects that are currently funded/being actively worked on are going to be integrated into one line? And would there be any hope for a connection to High Speed Rail in Stockton? There are at least 4-5 projects that cover the extent from Dublin/Pleasanton to Lathrop/Manteca, but how are they going to be integrated together once the Authority is formed (assuming it will by the end of the year or?) Even bigger is the challenge that everyone is going to have to face, which is that ultimately the Northern California region’s transit systems are going to (have to) be oriented towards High Speed Rail. The reason the question about the Dublin-Pleasanton–Lathrop-Manteca segment is so critical is that it makes an insane amount of sense to make it a one-transit-provider line, rather than ACE then BART or ? SEAMLESS transit is what we need to figure out now.
