Caltrain proposes later San Jose evening service

Hidden in Caltrain’s service proposal by a typo is a service change that will be welcome to Sharks fans and others who enjoy entertainment, dining, and time with friends in San Jose – later Northbound service from Diridon. On Saturday night, the last northbound train is proposed just shy of 11pm, an improvement over the current 10:30 last departure. On weekdays, the last northbound train is also a bit later, 10:49pm instead of the current 10:30.

Even later options would be welcome – midnight like the train from San Francisco, but the current proposal is an incremental improvement. The Caltrain planner staffing tonight’s public meeting to take schedule feedback confirmed that the change was in response to feedback from numerous customers who want later San Jose trains, so if you like this or want further improvements, let them know using the form on this page or coming to one of the meetings listed.

The draft service plan that is currently online has a typo on the weekend page, reading 10:58am instead of 10:58pm; the planner at the meeting confirmed 10:58pm. Hopefully by the time you look at the page, the typos will be fixed.

Also at the public feedback meeting, another attendee noted that the last train south from San Francisco has been proposed for slightly earlier, 11:50 instead of 12:01. While this seems like a subtle change, it will make it harder to get to the train from entertainment venues further from 4th and King, so she’d like the the midnight time restored.
