Getting to and from 22nd street Caltrain isn’t easy for anyone.
Muni access is indirect for many. There is no secure bike parking and bringing a bike on the train is unreliable since the trains run out of room. Â The urban station isn’t designed for driving and parking. And street parking near the station may no longer be available, if plans for parking permits go forward.
Tonight, a draft permit parking proposal is being discussed for the area near 22nd Street Caltrain at the Dogpatch Neighborhood Association. SFTMA staff Kathy Studwell, Andy Thornley, and Mark Dreger will present the proposal from SFMTA and take feedback.
If the neighborhood moves forward a permit parking plan, how will the city make it easier to get to the station for all?  Come, learn, and share your thoughts about making station access easier.
The meeting is at 7:15, at 654 Minnesota Street. Meetings typically finish by 9.
A good way to improve station access is to put a T muni stop at 22nd & Third so it’s actually convenient to business district and Caltrain did those coming from south on T.
Maybe just combine the 23rd & 3rd and 20th & 3rd spots. As a benefit, you also release more parking and speed up Muni.
Assuming there is interest in wider public participation, would it be possible to give adequate notice of these meetings?
The meeting is about the merits of adopting parking permits? If you really want to make permits happen, have a bunch of people show up for the meeting who park their cars near 22nd to board Caltrain.
At the meeting they talked about the potential to use a taxi lot for Caltrain parking, which seems like a reasonable idea. But also, I suspect that a fair number of people who drive to Caltrain and park would use an alternative if they had a reasonable choice. For example there is no secure bike parking near 22nd, and it’s a bike theft hot spot. Some people are coming from locations without effective Muni service. The amount of money from a meter would cover credits that could help someone take Lyft to the station and not have to park (other transit agencies are starting to partner with Lyft/Uber for first-mile service where there isn’t good public transit)

If you’d like to help increase capacity for notifications on things like this, you’d be welcome to help maintain the list of weekly meetings on the Caltrain corridor. With help on that project I’d have more bandwidth for sending out alerts. As it is, sometimes I run out of time on weekends, sorry.
