Caltrain signs contracts for electrification; congress members confident about federal funding

Today in San Mateo, Caltrain’s CEO signed contracts with executives of Balfour Beatty and Stadler to move ahead with the electrification of the Caltrain line from San Francisco to San Jose.   At the event, Congresswomen Anna Eshoo and Jackie Speier spoke confidently about the upcoming $647 million federal grant that is expected by the end of the year, to complete the funding for the project, alongside approved funding from local, regional and state sources.

This is a major milestone for a project that has been in the planning stages for many decades. The plan is for electric trains to be running by 2021.
