Mountain View Council advances downtown parking and access

In last Tuesday’s study session, Mountain View City Council supported several measures to improve downtown access and parking, including:

  • streamlining the process for neighborhoods to approve parking permits
  • moving forward with transportation demand management programs for the downtown area
  • adding more sensors to be able to gather more data, add more informative signs such as the ones in San Jose showed below, and facilitate paid parking if desired

There wasn’t an immediate appetite to pursue paid parking, although the downtown business association had expressed a willingness for it to be explored.

Since it was a study session, no votes were taken at that meeting, and decisions will need to be brought back to city council for votes.
