Two community forums: local and regional context for the SamTrans Dumbarton proposal

On September 11 in Menlo Park, and September 27 in Redwood City, Friends of Caltrain is co-sponsoring two community forums providing context on the SamTrans proposals to improve mobility on the congested Dumbarton corridor.

The Menlo Park Community Forum provides an opportunity to learn and discuss how the proposals relate to community goals, including:

  • Relationships with local land use plans to create “live work play” neighborhoods with housing, including affordable housing and local-serving retail
  • Improving walking, bicycling, and public spaces for all
  • Improving mobility, addressing congestion and cut-through traffic

Guest speakers include:
Michelle Tate, participant, Menlo Park General Plan Advisory Committee (completed)
Emma Schlaes, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition
Diane Bailey, Menlo Spark
Joël Ramos, TransForm
Moderated by Adina Levin of Friends of Caltrain

Monday, September 11, 6:30-8:30pm

The Community Forum in Redwood City focuses on considering the proposal in regional context.  On Wednesday, September 27, at Redwood City Downtown Library at 7pm, come learn about how the SamTrans Dumbarton proposal could help fulfill regional transportation goals, and consider possible refinements:

  • Regional networks for safe bicycling and walking, including bike commuting and trails connecting the hills and the bay
  • Regional transit networks, including bus and rail, for local, transbay, and “megaregion” travel
  • Regional express lanes to help support more regional transit and carpooling
  • Regional car trip reduction, with the potential for major congestion relief
  • Regional land use and housing

The program includes:
Rachael Lopes, Peninsula Open Space District – regional trails
Emma Shlaes, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition – regional bicycle networks
Ratna Amin, SPUR, Regional transportation and housing
Adina Levin, Friends of Caltrain – moderator

Wednesday, September 27, 7-9pm
